Three people were sent to the hospital, one of them still in critical condition after a multi-vehicle car collision in Santa Clara on Wednesday morning.
The East Bay Times reports that the accident happened at the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Jay Street near the San Tomas Expressway at approximately 9:05 a.m. One vehicle was stopped at a light in the southbound lanes of Scott Boulevard was rear-ended by a second vehicle. The force of the impact sent the first vehicle into the intersection and oncoming traffic.
Captain Wahid Kazem with the SCPD said in a statement to the media there was a great deal of debris at the scene of the crash and that emergency crews and investigators had closed down the area around San Tomas Expressway and Space Park Drive. Captain Kazem estimated that the road would not reopen until later that evening at around 4:00 p.m. Reports indicate that the roadway did reopen at around 1:30 p.m.

The driver from the first vehicle and a driver and passenger from the second vehicle were all transported to an area hospital for treatment all in critical condition. An update indicated that two of the crash victims were in serious yet stable condition while a third victim remained in critical condition. Authorities have not released their identities.
The crash is still under investigation. So far no one has been charged in relation to the accident. Santa Clara Police did not report any further collisions in the incident.
