Two Victorville teens were critically injured in a rollover crash that happened along Interstate 15 in the area of the Cajon Pass last month.
Victor Valley News reported that the accident happened on Thursday, April 16th, at approximately 5:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-15 near Oak Hill Road.
According to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash involved a red 2017 Ford Mustang and a 201 Toyota Prius. CHP officers arrived on the scene to find both vehicles had rolled over and suffered significant damage.
Investigators with the agency say that 18-year-old Daniel Joseph Castellaw of Apple Valley was the driver of the Mustang and was traveling at an unknown speed. The driver of the Prius has been identified as 25-year-old Christian Jose Martinez of Moreno Valley. Martinez was believed to have been going at approximately 70 miles per hour when the Mustang rear-ended it.
Both drivers lost control and rolled down an embankment along the interstate highway.
The occupants of both vehicles were extricated by emergency crews. Martinez was taken to an area hospital with only minor injuries.
Castellaw and two 16-year-old female passengers who were in the Mustang with him at the time were taken to the hospital with major injuries. One of the girls had to be airlifted by helicopter to a nearby trauma center.
