No one can foresee a potential accident. Even on well-traveled interstates, a crash can happen when you least expect it. No one could have predicted the two separate accidents along Interstate 800 last week.
The East Bay Times reports that the first of the two collisions involving three vehicles happened at the Broadway off-ramp in Oakland on Wednesday, June 10th, in the northbound lanes of Interstate 880 at approximately 8:20 p.m.
According to Officer Damien Cistaro with the California Highway Patrol, the accident involved a Mini Cooper, an SUV, and a black sedan. The crash blocked the right-hand lanes of the Interstate for over an hour. Only one person was hurt and suffered only minor injuries for which they were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The second crash happened a few minutes later in the northbound lanes of the 7700 block of Oakport Street at little before 8:45 p.m.
Officer Cistaro said that a white BMW X5 SUV had been traveling in the southbound lanes of I-880 when the vehicle left the roadway, traveled approximately 150 feet to a frontage road, and rolled through a guardrail before coming to rest some 400 feet away.
Michael Hunt, a spokesperson for the Oakland Fire Department, told reporters that the crash involved several children and possible ejections from the SUV.
