Increased social tensions can lead to people getting hurt. Sometimes injuries are unintentional, while at other times, people getting injured can be a part of something more sinister. According to a recent story filed by NPR, since late May, there have been more than 50 reports of incidents nationwide where cars have been turned into weapons.
KTLA reported on its website that a woman in was hurt in Studio City over the weekend after a man ran over several pedestrians and crashed into her vehicle head-on near the intersection of Norwalk and Beverly.
Lt. Jorge Marchena, the spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Pico Station, said in a statement that the incident happened on Sunday, June 21st, when authorities received a call about a physical altercation in the Pico Rivera area at approximately 2:15 p.m.
A man, estimated to be in his 30s, tried to run over people with his vehicle in a hit-and-run incident. The man fled the scene as soon as he spotted LACSD deputies arriving on the scene.
The deputies began to pursue the tan SUV along Peck Road when the lead deputy crashed her cruiser into another driver. The deputy called for medical assistance for the other driver but is expected to be ok.

A short time later, the suspect vehicle collided head-on near Workman Mill Road with a black Toyota pickup truck being driven by a pregnant woman with three additional passengers inside. The woman and all of the passengers did complain of pain. The woman was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, who initially refused to get out of his vehicle, was taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for possible injuries.
His identity was not released at the time of the report.
