Two men are dead after an incident of illegal street racing gone wrong at the beginning of the Labor Day weekend.
KTVU reports that the fatal crash happened at approximately 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, August 31st in San Jose when the driver of a Jeep lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a tree.

A spokesperson for the San Jose Police Department said in a statement that initial investigations reveal that the driver of the black 2014 Jeep was engaged in an illegal street race with a gray BMW. Both vehicles were heading northbound on Snell Avenue, north of Rosenbaum Avenue on the southern portion of San Jose.
During the race with the four-door sedan, the driver of the Jeep lost control and collided with a tree. Three male occupants of the BMW got out of their vehicle to look at the crash, but then got back into the car and fled the scene of the fatal crash.
Police say the male driver of the Jeep and a male passenger were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Their identities are being withheld at this time pending notification of family members.
The fatal crash is still currently under investigation. The San Jose Police Department is also seeking the occupants of the BMW. Anyone with any further information is being asked to get in touch with police.
