Today we have a tragic story from Gorman where a car crash on I-5 led to the death of a 16-year-old girl. ABC 10 reports.
The California Highway Patrol states they received a call just before 1 a.m. today about a single vehicle that overturned on northbound I-5 in Gorman. From their report, the driver suddenly turned his car right and hit the curb before rolling down an embankment.
A 16-year-old girl was thrown from the vehicle and onto the shoulder. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Three girls aged 14-19 were also injured in the crash. The driver was a 19-year-old male.
Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. As of now, the reason for running off the road is unknown. I-5 was closed for a brief time for the investigation and cleanup.
Our condolences go out to the family of the slain girl, and we hope that all the injured people in this crash recover fully. Driving off the road at 1 a.m. could be caused by many things, but one strong possibility is driver fatigue.
Driving while tired can be just as impairing as driving while drunk. This is speculation, but the driver could have nodded off momentarily and pulled on the wheel due to driving so late. We hope the police complete their investigation soon and release the full details.
