A rollover crash on the 15 Freeway in the Temescal Valley area on Wednesday has left one person dead.
KTLA in Los Angeles reports that the single-vehicle crash happened when a teenage boy lost control of the northbound pickup truck he was driving.
A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that at approximately 12:30 p.m. Jace Towery, 19, was driving a silver 2004 Toyota Tacoma accompanied by his mother, Katie Towery, 42. The teen was driving at an excessive rate of speed when the vehicle wandered over to the right side of the pavement just north of Temescal Canyon Road.
The tripped rollover crash resulted in the truck overturning a number of times before coming to a rest.
Riverside County Fire Department officials told KTLA that emergency crews attempted life-saving measures on Katie Towery, but she died approximately 18 minutes after the crash at the scene of the accident.
Jace Towery was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment of what has been described as moderate to major injuries. The teen is now listed in serious but stable condition.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fatal crash. Authorities are asking for witnesses or anyone with any further information regarding the crash to contact the CHP Office in Riverside at (951) 637-8000.
