A man who led police on two separate short pursuits has died after being struck by a vehicle when he fled from officers on foot on Thursday night.
Office Duane Graham told KTLA News that law enforcement officers were led on two separate pursuits that had to be abandoned before the suspect driver crashed and jumped from an overpass onto the northbound 5 Freeway.
The incident began on Thursday, July 23rd, at approximately 11:30 p.m. when officers from the Fullerton Police Department saw a sedan traveling eastbound on the eastbound 91 Freeway. The officers attempted to pull the driver over, but he refused to stop. Because of the suspect driver’s eratic behavior, police broke off the pursuit but continued to monitor the vehicle by an Anaheim Police helicopter.
The suspect vehicle then traveled westbound on the 91 Freeway. Officers from the Buena Park Police Department tried once again to pull over the speeding motorist but broke off the pursuit due to how he was driving.
The driver got back onto the eastbound 91 Freeway and eventually crashed his vehicle on the Euclid Street exit ramp. Anaheim Police officers assisted by the California Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
