Pedestrian traffic is common in this area, partially due to the nearby Food 4 Less grocery store and Washington Park being only a block away. Motorists should know to stay within the speed limit and keep an eye out for people, young or old, walking along the sides of (or trying to cross) the streets.
The victim was hit by two vehicles. One hit him and knocked him over, while a second ran over him while he was on the ground. The first driver stopped and is cooperating with authorities. Police say there was no evidence of impairment in the case of the first driver.
The second driver, however, fled the scene and is now at large. Meanwhile, the victim’s family mourns his passing.
Accidents like this one are all too common. Even a completely innocent accident can lead to major injury or even death. Even when no one is seriously injured, accidents can cause major property damage, as well as mental and emotional trauma for those involved. Such trauma can last many years.
