A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol issued a statement identifying the single male victim as 35-year-old Adam Herrera. Investigators say that Herrera had been traveling at an unknown speed before losing control of his vehicle. Herrera’s car spun out and ended up facing the wrong direction in the carpool lane. His vehicle was then struck head-on by a 2017 Infiniti that did not see Herrera’s car in the carpool lane.
The couple who were inside the Infiniti, Hark Jin Yoo and Kim Aeree, both 57 years of age and from Oak Park, suffered only minor injuries in the crash. Authorities pronounced Herrera dead at the scene of the accident.
So far, investigators with the CHP have determined that neither drugs nor alcohol played any role in the fatal crash.
All lanes of the northbound 405 were reopened at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. The accident is still currently under investigation.
