A Stockton mother and her 13-month-old son were killed in an accident when a San Joaquin Sheriff’s deputy’s patrol cruiser rear-ended her vehicle on Saturday, December 14th.
Fox 40 in Los Angeles reports that the vehicle that Kalesha Johnson, 23, and her infant son, Kevin Hart III were in was rammed by a sheriff’s cruiser that was heading northbound on Interstate 5 near Charter way. Investigators say that the accident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m.
The impact of the crash sent Johnson’s Ford sedan down an embankment before the vehicle came to a stop.
The 13-month old was in his car seat at the time of the crash. The San Juaquin County Sheriff’s deputy removed the child from the vehicle and began performing CPR immediately. Some Good Samaritans who had also witnessed the collision started performing CPR on Johnson.
Both Johnson and the deputy were rushed to area hospitals for treatment. Johnson was The infant was flown to a children’s hospital, but later died from the injuries he received in the crash.
On the morning of Thursday, December 19th, Kalesha Johnson also died.
Investigators have obtained home video surveillance footage that shows Johnson slowed down with her blinkers on when her vehicle was rear-ended by the patrol cruiser driven by Deputy Kengie Yang.
The California Highway Patrol and the San Joaquin Sheriff’s department are continuing to investigate.
