A Twenty-Nine Palms man lived through the nightmare of his Jeep plunging off the roof of a six-story parking structure in Santa Monica in the early morning hours on Sunday. Though he survived the ordeal, he is currently listed in critical condition.
KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles reports that the incident happened a little after midnight at a parking garage located a short distance from the Santa Monica Pier. A spokesperson for the Santa Monica Police Department told reporters that there had been two others who had been in the Jeep managed to jump out of the vehicle before it went off the parking structure.

The Jeep landed against a building across the street from the parking structure. When police arrived, they found the victim suffering from what appeared to be minor injuries. Firefighters and Paramedics arrived on the scene and had to extricate the 20-year-old driver from his crumpled vehicle. He was later transported to an area hospital via ambulance in critical condition.
His identity has not been released at this time. No one else was injured in connection to the crash. The City plans to inspect the building to determine whether it is structurally sound after the incident.
Investigators with the Santa Monica Police Department are still trying to determine why the man drove his vehicle off the parking garage. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
