All the eastbound lanes were closed for several hours Monday morning after a fatal accident in the early morning hours, according to KTLA. A man in his 30s drove his SUV into the back of a box truck, which had been stopped on the freeway.
It was foggy that morning, which may have contributed to the accident. The man in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. While it wasn’t immediately known how or why the box truck came to a stop on the freeway, but the driver of the truck was later arrested for driving under the influence.
As a result of the crash, all the eastbound lanes on the 101 Freeway had to close. One lane was opened about 4 a.m., while the remaining lanes weren’t opened until about 5:40 the same morning.

It seems that two mistakes were made that contributed to this fatal accident. On one hand, the box truck driver, for some reason, perhaps a reason involving the use of alcohol, stopped in the middle of the freeway, creating a dangerous situation. On the other hand, the driver of the SUV failed to see the box truck in time to stop or slow his vehicle, a mistake that ended his life. Of course, the fog may have added to this problem, but that goes to show just how cautious we must be when the weather creates a risky situation on the road.
