An accident on the westbound 10 Freeway in Ontario has left one person dead, and several power lines downed in that area.
CBS Local station KCAL in Los Angeles reports that a semi-tractor trailer rig heading westbound struck a median and then a power pole near Archibald Avenue on Wednesday, July 31st just after 3:30 a.m.
Eyewitnesses to the incident say that the crash caused the power lines to fall across both the westbound and eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway. Some of those downed lines were sparking when they fell, creating an extremely dangerous situation.

Pictures taken at the crash site show the trailer of the 18-wheeler mostly intact while there remains only charred debris where the cab of the truck should be. A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said in a statement to CBS that the driver of the big rig died in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the truck driver has not been released pending notification of family members.
A sedan that was struck by the downed power lines suffered minor damage from the incident. However, the driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of the freeway were shut down while crews removed the power lines and cleaned up the debris.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fatal crash.
