Getting behind the wheel when you haven’t had an adequate amount of sleep can prove to be almost as dangerous as drinking and driving. An overtired driver can potentially fall asleep at the wheel and get into an accident.
According to a story reported on the KWCH website that seems to have been what happened when the driver of a school bus crashed into a home on Tuesday, December 17th.
Dwayne McNutt, a neighbor near the home where the school bus crashed, told the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that he arrived shortly after the accident happened and spoke to the school bus driver. “He heard a big noise and when he woke up, he found himself right in front of the house,” McNutt said. “Kind of dozed off.”

The school bus driver missed a curve and collided with a vehicle that was parked on the street. The bus then continued to hit a telephone service box and a fence before crashing into a home in the neighborhood. Eyewitnesses say that a large boulder in front of the house near the garage prevented the damage to the structure from being worse than it was.
Other than the bus driver, there was no one on board the school bus at the time of the crash.
The attorney representing the bus driver said that his client suffers from sleep apnea. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the school bus driver, and have not said whether the driver will be ticketed after the incident.
