A skateboarder has died after he collided with a Los Angeles Metro bus on Monday. Unaware of what happened, the bus driver continued on his route for an additional 10 miles before stopping.
According to a recent article appearing on the Brinkwire website, the fatal collision happened on Monday, August 10th, at approximately 12:40 a.m. when 26-year-old Peter Timoteo Smith Padilla of Pamona struck the bus. The bus was waiting at a traffic signal at the intersection of City Terrace Drive and Pomeroy Street when Padilla hit it.
The crash sent the man underneath the wheels of the bus. Eyewitnesses say that moments later, the light changed, and the bus ran over Padilla. The driver, utterly unaware of what had just occurred, continued on his route.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the emergency call. They pronounced Padilla dead at the scene.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies located the bus driver approximately 30 minutes later, 10 miles to the east of where the fatal crash happened.
According to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol, investigators found that the incident was not-intentional and was not considered a hit-and-run crash.
Officials say that the accident is currently under investigation. So far, no charges have been filed in the case.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the surviving members of Padilla’s family to assist with funeral arrangements and other costs
