A two-vehicle collision near Freemont High School on Monday sent seven people to the hospital. Five of those injured in the crash were children.
According to the story filed on the KTLA website, the crash happened in the Florence neighborhood just after 1:00 p.m. in the 7000 block of Avalon Boulevard near the intersection of 77th Street.

Fire Fighters with the Los Angeles Fire Department had to extricate several people from inside the SUV. A total of seven people were transported to an area hospital for treatment: the adult driver, along with five children of different ages, and an infant. Two of the children are currently listed in critical condition while the three other children appeared to have suffered only minor injuries.
The woman driving the Mazda was also injured in the collision. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. Her current condition is unknown.
LAFD Assistant Chief Jaime Moore told reporters that it appears that everyone had their seatbelts on or were in proper restraints at the time of the horrific crash.
Los Angeles Police Department investigators are still investigating the cause of the crash. So far, impairment by drugs or alcohol has been ruled out, but speed may have played a role in the crash.
