Most people are inclined to want to help if possible when they see an accident in front of them. The desire to lend assistance is one of our best qualities as human beings. One man, however, recently chose to flee the scene after ramming his vehicle into two other cars that were in an earlier crash.
According to a story appearing on the Patch.com website the initial crash happened in Petaluma on Sunday, May 19th on the southbound U.S. Highway 101 onramp at approximately 4:00 p.m. Police were called to the scene when a man driving a gold Nissan Sentra struck the other two vehicles.
Police said in a statement that one of the drivers in the two previously crashed vehicles was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Eyewitnesses told Petaluma Police Department officers that the man acted erratically when approached by the other drivers. The man then drove his vehicle to Skillman Lane where he abandoned his car and then attempted to flee on foot. Police officers were able to catch up to the driver a couple of blocks away from where he had abandoned his vehicle. Reports indicate that the suspect resisted arrest and had to be placed in restraints.
The suspect was identified as Flyn Austin Nichol, 35, of Petaluma. Officers arrested Nichols for driving under the influence of drugs, suspicion of hit-and-run, and resisting arrest. Nichols was later booked into Sonoma County Jail.
